Tsuyoshi Tanii President & CEO Monthly Internet traffic in Japan surpassed 10,000 Gbps for the first time in November 2017. The volume of traffic has doubled every two years since 2013*1. There is no question that the further spread of e-commerce, popularization of rich content and expansion of IoT/big data will increase the rate of this growth.

What will support this growth in traffic is broadband connection service. The price level per 1 Mbps of fixed broadband service in Japan is 27.5 yen for detached houses and 17.8 yen for condominiums. This is one-third of the price level in New York and London and less than one-half what it is in Dusseldorf. It puts prices for quality Internet connection in Japan alongside those in Seoul (24.4 yen) as the lowest in the world*2.

On the other hand, however, only 31.5 out of 100 use broadband, which is not even 80% of the level in France, the Netherlands and the UK*3. Considering future increases in traffic, we recognize that there are still many market needs to be met.

As a provider in the communication services market, we hope to contribute even if in a small way to major change in what is called the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”*4 by developing and providing services that better address the communication services needs of both small and mid-sized corporate customers and individual customers.

We look forward to giving you the opportunity to leverage the strength of the Forval Group.
